Overview of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) development process

The process of assessment for eligibility, eligibility determination, IEP development, and IEP implementation can be complicated.  This document outlines key information and includes a short glossary of terms.

ESY (Extended School Year)

What is Extended School Year, When is it, and Where is it?

Extended school year (ESY) is offered to students with disabilities which are likely to continue indefinitely or for a prolonged period, and interruption of the educational programming may cause regression – and because of the student’s limited ability to recoup skills, it would be impossible or unlikely that the pupil will attain the level of self-sufficiency and independence that would otherwise be expected in view of his or her disabling condition.  (5 C.C.R.  3043)

For the 2018 summer, ESY will be held from June 18, 2018 through July 13, 2018 at various sites, including: Castille Elementary School, Del Obispo Elementary School, Hidden Hills Elementary School, R.H. Dana ENF, Marco Forster Middle School, and Dana Hills High School.  Not all programs are offered at all sites.

If you have questions, please contact your child’s case carrier.
